Do you use a CPAP Machine? Do you have Sleep Apnea? Do you know what Sleep Apnea Is? Do you or your partner snore? If you have yes or no to any of these questions, read on.
Sleep Apnea is simply when a person stops breathing during the night and wakes up continually during the night gasping for air. This definitely includes people who snore. They do not realize they are waking up constantly during the night gasping for breath.
When these symptoms first start it can be very scary, you do not realize what is happening to you. But when you continue to do this numerous times during the night, night after night an immediate trip to the doctor is in order.
Your doctor will order a sleep study where you either spend the night at a facility or you can take the recording electronic machine home and use it in the comfort of your own bed. Once it is established you do have sleep apnea on to the next step.
CPAP MACHINES:
You will be sent to a provider to receive your very own CPAP Machine. The CPAP machine is what I really want to talk about right now.
The CPAP machine is a wonderful piece of modern electronics. The problem with the machine is the attached mask. This mask is fitted for your size and shape of face. Most people do not have a problem with the masks.
CONSULTATION FOR CPAP MACHINES:
(1) Receive your CPAP Machine.
(2) Receive instructions on how to use it.
(3) Get fitted for your mask.
(4) Receive instructions on how to use and clean mask.
PROBLEMS WITH MASK:
The problem lies with the people that do not fall into the perfect face category. For example: I have a small face and I breathe through my mouth. This makes me a candidate which is hard to fit. Since I have received my CPAP Machine I have tried to wear every mask on the market today.
As a mouth breather I need to wear a mask that covers my mouth as well as my nose. I find the mask awkward, uncomfortable, and painful. I feel extreme pressure upon my nose and cheeks.
Also all masks leak air. The air leakage is very uncomfortable. It either shoots into your eyes or your mouth, actually air leakage can happen on any part of the mask. Every night I must put on this mask and sleep.
For people who breathe through their nose the mask only covers their nose and it is a much smaller mask. These people have less problems with their masks.
I am asking the people who design and manufacture these wonderful masks which save our lives everyday to try and make better fitting masks. Something light and definitely fits over the nose without pain.
Without this wonderful CPAP machine:
(1) I could die during my sleep.
(2) I could have a stroke
(3) I could have brain damage.
(4) I could become a diabetic
(5) I could have a heart attack.
(6) Miscellaneous

Sleep apnea is also known as obstructive sleep apnea, and is also characterized on not breathing about 10 or more seconds while sleeping. It is a sleep disorder that commonly occurs on adults and rarely on children. Sleep apnea is also suspected on the medical history of the person. Treatment may do either nonsurgical or surgical.
Apnea occurs on not normal sleeping and breathing because breathing will suddenly reduced and stops for a period of seconds. This includes the definition that occur, stops breathing or airflow or 4% loss of oxygen on blood that results on reducing the inflow of the oxygen on the blood. This can cause disruption on sleeping and also an indication that the person is on his deep sleep.
Symptoms of Apnea are excessive in sleeping on daytime, and several times of obstructed breathing while sleeping. Loud snoring, morning headaches, refreshing sleep, dried mouth usually when awakes, high blood, overweight, irritability, personality changes, depression, difficult in concentrating, heartburn, reduce libido, restless sleep, insomnia.
Sleep disorder apnea is a serious problem that is to be treated and to have a lot of medical attention. This could cause heart attacks, impotence, strokes, irregular heartbeat, and heart disease. Obstructive sleep apnea can cause sleepy during daytime, lost productivity and also relationship problems.
Diagnosis can be done when the doctor test the patient and it is called polysomnography, there are two kinds of testing the patient using polysomnograms. On overnight test which involves muscle tension, monitoring brain waves, eye movement and respiration. This also includes measuring level of the oxygen in the blood. The second test is to be done at home or called monitoring test at home.
Moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea can be treated using Continuous Positive-Airway Pressures (C-PAP). This machine blows the air inside your nose by the use of nose mask. Bi Level machine is used in treating severe apnea which blows the air in 2 different pressures. In Bi Level Machine, the pressure will be higher if the person inhales and the pressure becomes lower when exhaling.
However, Mild Obstructive Sleep Apnea can be treated through several behavioral changes such as weight loss. Other uses oral mouth devices which is helpful in keeping airways always open while sleeping. This helps in reducing obstructive snoring in three ways such as bringing the jaw forward, elevating the soft palate and maintain the tongue in falling back the airway as well as in blocking breathing.
The Obstructive Apnea is considered a progressive situation or disease that gets worse as a person grows old.

CPAP nasal masks offer a more comfortable feel than full faced CPAP masks. Still there are choices to make when shopping for a nasal mask.
Nose Breathers and Sleep Apnea Nasal Masks
Sleep disorders such as insomnia and narcolepsy, can be detected but not sleep apnea. Insomnia sufferers and individuals who experience excessive sleepiness during the day know there is something wrong with their sleep habits. But individuals who have sleep apnea cannot detect they have the problem unless their sleep has been observed as having apnea episodes or non-breathing spiels.
When you have sleep apnea, your air passages are either blocked or you simply do not have the drive to breathe regularly to feed your lungs the air they need. During sleep, you stop breathing beyond regular intervals between breathes. If this happens five times or more within an hour, you have sleep apnea. If you are a nose breather, the doctor will prescribe a CPAP nasal mask.
Visit dealers of CPAP nasal masks in Toronto if you get your doctor's recommendation for a mask. This is triangular in shape and worn over you nose. Prongs are fitted into the nose through which air from the CPAP machine that flows to the tubing towards the prongs are directed towards the nasal air passageways. Sleep Apnea MaskExamine Sleep Apnea - This Dental Treatment Has High Success Rate more
Sleep apnea is a frightening disease. Apnea comes from Greek and means without breath. Those with this disorder literally stop breathing in their sleep. Treatment is necessary because this is something that could lead to death. Numerous treatments exist but what many people do not know is that dental treatment for this condition has a very high success rate.
There are 3 types of apnea: obstructive, central and mixed. Obstructive apnea occurs when the airway is physically blocked with soft tissue from the back of the throat. Central apnea occurs when the brain does not signal the muscles in the airway to breathe. Mixed apnea is a combination of both.
Weight loss, exercise and good sleep hygiene are ways that patients can treat sleep apnea on their own at home. It is important to talk to your doctor or dentist about other dental and medical treatments as well.
There are three professional treatments for apnea; CPAP, Oral Appliance Therapy, and surgery.
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure is known as CPAP. Pressurized air is generated in a machine next to the bed. This air is forced through the windpipe to hold it open. A mask is fitted for the face that holds the air hose in the nose. CPAP acts like the airway in a balloon that is being blown up. It is necessary to see a doctor or dentist to fit the mask.
Oral Appliance Therapy involves placing devices into the mouth to prevent obstructive apnea. The appliances are like retainers, invisalign for teeth straightening or the mouth guards used in sports. Therapy involves selecting, designing, fitting and using a custom designed oral device that is worn while sleeping. The appliance is designed to keep the airway open and unobstructed.
There are many different oral appliances available. The FDA has approved over 40 different devices for use in treatment of sleep disorders including apnea. Oral appliances can be used alone or in concert with other treatments. Other treatments can include overall general health, weight loss, surgery or CPAP.
Oral appliances work in many different ways to improve sleep disorders. First, they act to reposition different parts of the mouth. This keeps the tissue in the soft palate and the uvula from blocking the air way. Secondly, the device stabilizes the lower jaw and tongue. Thirdly, the appliance increases the muscle tone of the tongue.
It is important to see a dentist that has been trained in Oral Appliance Therapy. They will be familiar with the different types of devices. A trained dentist can help decide which treatment and device type is right. The dentist will work as a team with the physician for diagnosis, treatment and on-going care.
Determining a course of treatment can only be made with joint consultation from a physician and a dentist. Oral Appliance Therapy can take weeks or months to implement. The dentist will continue to monitor the treatment and evaluate the response of the mouth.
In addition to Oral Appliance Therapy, a dentist trained in oral and maxillofacial surgery can evaluate a surgical option as well. These dentists can treat obstructive apnea with minimally invasive procedures as well as complex surgeries, including jaw advancement.
Dentists are not permitted to diagnose sleep apnea. They are an integral part of the treatment however. It is important to find a knowledgeable and experienced dental practitioner. The dentist will be a major part in the treatment of this disorder.

Sleep ApneaRead Symptoms, Causes and Cures of Sleep Apnea additional
Sleep apnea is a medical condition where there is a reduction or complete pause in breathing while a person is sleeping. Breathing normally stops for a period of ten seconds or more in a person suffering from sleep apnea and breathing reduces by 25% than normal. Though the most common symptom of sleep apnea is loud snoring, not all people who snore have sleep apnea.
Symptoms
There are a number of symptoms that signal this sleeping disorder but as this disorder takes place when one is sleeping these symptoms can be hard to point out. Some of the common symptoms of sleep apnea include:
o Morning headaches
o Mood swings, irritability and sometimes depression
o Trouble in concentrating or remembering things
o A need to urinate in the night
o Waking up feeling very thirsty
o Tendency to gasp for breath and wake up in the middle of the night
All or some of these symptoms are accompanied with loud snoring, which tends to get worse if the person suffering from this disorder sleeps on his/her back.
Causes
This sleeping disorder has been related to a number of causes with the primary one being a blockage in the nasal passage. This blockage leads to breathing obstruction which causes the loud snoring and also the pause in breathing, parched throat and restless sleep.
Some of the primary causes of this sleeping disorder can be linked to:
o Being overweight
o Having large tonsils or adenoids
o A deviated nasal septum
o Nasal blockage or congestion because of chronic cold or allergies
o Use of stimulants such as nicotine, caffeine or recreational drugs
Studies show that men more than women are more at a risk of being diagnosed with sleep apnea. Post menopausal women are the ones who are at risk of being detected with this disorder while one out of twenty five men are diagnosed with sleep apnea. This condition can be further aggravated or even induced because of the use of Club drugs or recreational drugs such as ecstasy or methylenedioxy methamphetamine (MDMA), as these drugs alter the brain wave patterns while a person is asleep.
Diagnosis & Cure
An isolated incident of waking up suddenly in the middle of the night feeling parched and thirsty does not indicate sleep apnea. Chronic snoring alone too is not an indicator of this disorder. However, one must listen closely to his/her body to find out if there is something that the body is trying to say. So, if you suspect that you are suffering from sleep apnea, you must visit your doctor or a medical practitioner who will be able to make a diagnosis post study of your family history along with a number of tests. These tests are conducted by specialists for the lungs, ear, nose and throat and nerves.
Going to sleep specialists also helps as they study sleeping patterns to diagnose sleep apnea and then suggest a treatment course.
There are a number of things that one can do to get relief from this sleeping disorder. These include:
o Losing weight
o Abstaining from stimulants and recreational drugs
o Sleeping on your side and elevating your head
o Using nasal aspirators or saline sprays to open blocked nasal passages

Sleep apnea is the repeated pausing of breathing while sleeping, so that one or more breaths are missed. A person can have many occurrences a night and in some people, episodes may last for up to minute. At each incident the brain awakens the person for a moment, to make them inhale air again. This cycle of brief awakenings results in disturbed and poor quality rest. Sleep apnea is not the same as snoring, though most people with this condition do snore.
Blood pressure normally falls during sleep. There is a substantial amount of evidence that if there is no fall at night, there is an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, including stroke and heart failure.
One of the side effects of sleep apnea is that blood pressure usually does not fall at night. This means that there is an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Additionally if left untreated, there is an increased likelihood of having daytime (resting) high blood pressure too.
Some estimates are that 50% of long-term sufferers have high blood pressure. It is not clear whether the cause is the repeated shortage of oxygen, caused by missing breaths, or the interrupted and poor quality of sleep. It is probably a combination of both. Studies have shown that continually not getting enough sleep increases the risk of elevated blood pressure. The lack of continual deep sleep due to sleep apnea may have a similar effect.
Those with sleep apnea usually cannot tell that they have this condition, since they are not aware of stopping breathing and the brief awakenings. Consequently, many sufferers do not believe that they have this problem. when others tell them.
The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute estimates that 18 million people have sleep apnea. This is a large number of people who are at greater risk of increased blood pressure.
There are a number of treatment options for sleep apnea depending on the cause. Sometimes lifestyle changes are sufficient, and can include, not lying on the back, sleeping with head and upper body elevated (such as in a recliner) a reduction in alcohol consumption, reduction in the use of muscle relaxants, quitting smoking and weight loss. There are a number of devices that fit in the mouth that are worn at night. Positive airway pressure devices are available also. A good place to start for more information about the causes and treatment is the American Sleep Apnea Association.
Treatment will decrease the risk of getting high blood pressure. For those who already have high blood pressure, treatment will help stop further increases, and reduce the risk of the consequences such as stroke and heart failure.

Why Use CPAP
Sleep Apnea MaskFor many people who have been diagnosed of having sleep apnea, they are easily prescribed to use CPAP. This is because the use of CPAP masks have been deemed as the most effective - if not the only effective therapy for sleep apnea there is. However, many are still wary of the use of this machine seeing it be very intimidating and at the same time looking uncomfortable. Here are some reasons why you should opt to use CPAP instead of the other options if you ever find the need to use one:
(1) It is proven to be effective
The use of CPAP therapy in order to relieve people who are suffering from sleep apnea is the most effective if not the only effective option there is. While some people who have been diagnosed with sleep apnea opted for a machine or mask free solution - most times, they find that this does not bring them comfort at all. This solution is going under the knife for an operation. However, it is proven that it is the use of CPAP which relieves sleep apnea inflicted individuals to breathe easier, better and sleep a lot sounder.
(2) It is very easy to maintain.
CPAP is very easy to maintain. You do not need to change it for a very long time and if you maintain it properly, you will be surprised at how long the mask and the unit can stay with you. While it may look a bit complicated, the CPAP machine is actually very easy to use as well as to clean and maintain.
(3) It is very accessible.
CPAP is very accessible and is very easy to find and purchase. Even without insurance, sources like CPAPMAN make it possible for you to purchase CPAP and bring you relief.
(4) It is safe and very efficient.
CPAP is very easy to use and is very easy to operate. All you need to do is wear the mask and turn the machine on, no fuss or other things that need to be fixed.
Not only does CPAP bring instant comfort, the prolonged use of this unit brings better resting nights and sounder as well as deeper sleep.

CPAP therapy is exceedingly effective. In fact, its so effective that your doctor probably isn't even interested in exactly why you have sleep apnea. If your doc suspects you may have it you will be enrolled in a nearby sleep clinic for a study and in a few weeks you'll have a sleep machine in your bedroom.
But trying CPAP in a controlled clinical setting is much different than actually trying to use it at home. It just isn't natural to stick a mask on your face and have high pressure air blown at you. Even people who show no signs of claustrophobia in normal activities can have problems sticking with their CPAP therapy.
I DO have a very mild claustrophobia. Below is a simple process my sleep doctor taught me to help me over my fears:
First, sit upright on your bed, your feet on the floor with the mask next to you. Don't touch it; just gaze at it. Take your time; you're not going anywhere.
When you feel at ease, pick the mask up. Just hold it. Stare at it if you like. Think about how you'll soon be putting the mask on. Listen to your heart beat. Listen to your breathing. Is it effortless as it should be?
When you feel calm and relaxed, put the mask up to your face. Don't put your head in the straps. Just breathe comfortably for a few moments. Is that so hard?
Now its time to put the CPAP mask on, head straps and all. This will take a moment or two if you are a beginner. Don't panic. Just concentrate on breathing in a calm fashion.
Turn your machine on. Be sure to press the button that starts the ramp up procedure. Your CPAP provider did show you how to do this. Do you remember? Sleep machines are all equipped with a ramp button that begins your air pressure fairly low, and over about 15 minutes gently ramps up to the prescribed pressure setting. If your machine is a newer model the precise ramp-up time may be something you can control.
You aren't lying down on the bed yet, are you? Just continue sitting on the edge of the bed with your mask and machine on. Then, when you are ready, go ahead and lie down. Within a few minutes you'll be fast asleep!
Now if at any time in this progression you feel uncomfortable, just move back a step. If you have a problem when you turn on the machine, just turn it off. If you have problems lying down, just get back up and sit. At first I simply had problems putting on the mask, so I simply held it. Take your time, and when you are ready just move back up to the next step.

CPAP Masks - Pluses and Minuses
Sleep Apnea MaskThe CPAP mask is every sleep apnea sufferer's Holy Grail. This is the secondary yet an important factor in the treatment of sleep apnea, after the CPAP machine. You can't sleep with something cumbersome on your face, right? But you can sleep to the low hum of machines. That is why CPAP masks should be chosen for comfortable fit.
Pluses of the CPAP Mask
The good news about CPAP masks are their versatility. These are designed for different sizes and are available in different interface configurations to suit petite, medium, and large facial contours and sizes. When trying on the CPAP masks in Toronto shops, it is not enough. You should try them on at home at bedtime to find out if the bridge of nose is bruised or if your movements are restricted by the CPAP mask; in short, check it out for pluses and minuses.
Here the plus factors of the masks - the newer models are made from soft material and are lightweight. These are cheaper than invasive procedures that guarantee little and work excellently to provide regular air pressure to the upper air passageway to the lungs and thanks to the makers of CPAP; sleep apnea patients don't have to glue CPAP masks to their faces anymore.
CPAP are also portable. Sleep apnea patients can travel anytime and take along their sleek CPAP machines and their mask. These can be slipped into travel bags without fuss. Upon arrival at their destination, they simply plug the device to a power outlet, and they're ready for the long night ahead. Dealers of CPAP masks in Toronto can provide the travel cases for your CPAP machine and other accessories you might need for your CPAP system.
The Minuses
Things can go wrong with your mask. If it does not have a proper fit, it can get dislodged during sleep, preventing the steady supply of pressurized air into the airways. If it is held in place by tight straps, you cannot sleep well. However, this is a minor problem; dealers of CPAP in Toronto can show you different straps with Velcro instead of straps with bulky buckles.
A CPAP mask must be comfortable whatever sleeping position you have. You should not have bruises or expect any discomfort. Do not go for the line to 'expect some discomfort' because that's not the way CPAP should be.
Although CPAP machines and masks can be transported during travels, you need to have a power outlet to make the machine work. Sleeping outdoors shouldn't be in the travel map of sleep apnea patients; but this is just a minor nuisance.
If you have a full beard, there should no be problem even if you are going for full-face mask. That is if you don't mind the nightly ritual of applying lanolin on your beard before putting on the CPAP. Again, this is a minor nuisance.
But if you like to read in bed or watch your favorite TV series before dozing off, the dealers of CPAP in Toronto will let you test the lightweight CPAP nasal mask at home. This is rental option is available to all CPAP users in the Toronto area.
Check out the stores selling CPAP mask in Toronto and ask for a trial before making that important investment. Once bought, you cannot return your mask or your machine. Live with the pluses of your CPAP mask, not its minuses and you will be okay.

Sleep Apnea.
Sleep Apnea is a condition where the airways are restricted while sleeping causing snoring, and awakening through the night as the body responds to the lack of oxygen and the person wakes up suddenly, starts breathing again, falls asleep, wakes again, and breathes, falls asleep and so on through the night time. Lots of people dont even know that they do this and just know that they are perpetually tired and fatigued. In some cases the sleeper uses a sleep ,machine to maintain the airways on the open position and in severe cases an operation is necessary to give relief.
It is a scary time when you know that for some reason you have awoken, your heart is racing and you have realised that you have hit yourself in the throat for some reason..
Next day you drag yourself out of bed as if you have hardly slept..
The days work drags and in bad cases you actually fall asleep at the desk or even more dangerous behind the wheel of the car. maybe just seconds sometimes for longer..
Not a good situation to be in by any means.
Natural herbs can give a fast remedy for so many people and yet they don't know about it and neither did I. I found out by way of using a nutrition program for maintaining weight and for better health. After just 3 days on the program I was bouncing out of bed. Feet on the floor and standing up before I actually realised I was there. The next few days were a breeze and no sleep on the couch before tea time. I didn't know then what had changed but after a week or so I realised that my sleep pattern had changed significantly.
Then with Springtime no hayfever either.
If you have either of these complaints look at NRG a supplement infused with guarana - an ancient, Amazonian seed with properties similar to caffeine, boosts your energy naturally, while helping improve mental alertness by opening the blood vessels in the head and allowing better oxygenation of the blood. The guarana extract also helps relieve various ailments including headaches, anxiety, stamina, menstrual pains etc.. and conversely it works to give a good nights sleep when taken immediately before going to sleep by lowering the energy levels of the body.

Sleep ApneaUnderstand Sleep Apnea Masks - Why Use the Full Face Sleep Apnea Mask additional
If you have sleep apnea, you are probably familiar with sleep apnea masks. You are also probably aware that, although the disease itself is not fatal, it can greatly increase your risk of heart disease and stroke. Currently there is no cure for sleep apnea, but the treatment is relatively benign. The only truly effective treatment for sleep apnea is a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine. A CPAP machine works by forcing air through a tube and mask into your lungs, effectively keeping your airway open and allowing you to breathe normally.
The main thing that people have an issue with is the mask itself. Making sure that the facial mask fits well and meets your needs will go a long way to ensuring that you will actually use your mask. Here are three reasons to consider using a full face mask:
1. Mouth Breathing. This is the only mask that works for mouth breathers is a mask that covers your nose and mouth. If you wear a nasal mask and are a mouth breather, then you will not be breathing in pressurized air, and your air passage will collapse upon itself, just as if you weren't using a CPAP machine.
2. Sinus or Allergy Sufferer. If you suffer from nasal blockages you might want to consider a full face mask. This allows you the ability to sleep with your mouth open, even if you do this unwittingly.
3. Weak Jaw. If you have a weak jaw, your mouth is likely to drop open when you are sleeping. This can result in mouth breathing (see 1) or not. If you are not breathing through your mouth an open mouth is still a problem as the pressurized air will flow out of your mouth, instead of keeping your airway open.
Which of the sleep apnea masks should you use? If the three instances above are appropriate to you, then you are a good candidate for the full face mask variety of the sleep apnea mask.

Those who suffer from sleep apnea know the benefits provided by devices such as BiPAP machines. However, one of the most overlooked parts of the apparatus is the mask that is worn, without which the BiPAP machine would be unable to effectively treat the symptoms of sleep apnea. Because the mask is such an important part of the treatment, there are many different options available to accommodate a wide range of needs.
When choosing a mask to use with your BiPAP machine, it is important to take into consideration some very important factors that will effective you and the effectiveness of the mask or other delivery system you choose: do you tend to breathe through your mouth? Does your mouth open while you sleep? Do you have large amounts of facial hair? Do you feel claustrophobic when using conventional face masks? These are but a few of the questions to ask when you are looking for a mask that is suitable to your needs.
For those who have no problems with mouth breathing and whose mouths stay closed while asleep, a mask that covers only the nose may be and effective and comfortable option. These masks often have a chin strap to ensure that the mouth doesn't accidentally open while sleeping, as well as to further secure the mask and create a tight seal. However, if you often find your mouth open while you sleep, you should consider buying a mask that covers both the nose and the mouth. This is very important, as breathing through the mouth while using a mask that covers only the nose will reduce or eliminate the effects of the BiPAP machine and therefore reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.
If you feel claustrophobic while wearing a face mask, another option to consider are nasal pillows, which insert directly into the nose and require no headgear. The seal is created against the inside of the nasal passages, leaving the face exposed. This is also an excellent alternative for those whose facial hair prevents a tight seal from forming while wearing a traditional face mask. Another option to consider is using an interface that resembles nasal cannula, except the tubing is large enough to create a seal when inserted into the nostrils. Both of these options are extremely viable alternatives to face masks in most cases. However, if the BiPAP machine is administering a high pressure, it may cause the seal to break due to the lack of headgear used with the nasal pillows or cannula.
Because your comfort is necessary to a good night's sleep, it is very important to choose a comfortable mask to go along with your BiPAP machine. If your mask is causing you discomfort and preventing restful sleep, the treatment will become ineffective and your symptoms will not clear. It is important to try many different options to find the one that suits you the best and affords the most comfort to ensure the maximum effectiveness of the treatment.

A BiPAP machine is a medical instrument that is used to treat a specific medical problem known as a sleep apnea where a person stops breathing for few seconds during his sleep. The function of a BIpap machine is to force the air though his nostrils and also regulate the sir pressure when he exhales the air so that a proper balance is maintained.
A Bipap piece of equipment works by means of a small air pump that is fastened over the mouth of a person by means of a mask, the machine monitors the breath and regulates the type of pressure that is required by an individual for inhaling and exhaling air. Most BiPAP machines nowadays come with a humidifier which helps to keep the skin around the nostrils moist. it is important that the band that is used to fastened a sleep apnea BiPAP machine should fit the face properly, or else the danger of leakage e can be very high and air pressure might get disturbed.
BiPAP machines are much more expensive no doubt but they generally have features that are meant for patients with advanced level of sleep apnea problem. They act more like ventilators because they do not assist in breathing, they keeps the lungs active by assisting in artificial breathing.
BiPAP apparatus serves generally three objectives namely they reduce the effort on the part of the lungs to breath, improves the overall oxygenation in the body by assisting in the breathing procedure and lastly for improving the heart function of a person.
Sleep apnea BiPAP machines generally come with three type of mask namely nasal mask, oral masks and triangular mask. The nasal mask is very useful for people who have problem with sleeping. Sleep Apnea - The Cure
Sleep ApneaWhen you go to bed at night, chances are you just fall asleep and do not really remember anything until you wake up the next morning. However, if you still feel tired despite having gotten the obligatory eight hours of sleep, and are having trouble remembering things, then you might be suffering from something that you are not even aware of.
Specifically, you might be suffering from a sleep disorder known as sleep apnea. This is a problem that millions of people suffer from, but some are not even aware of. Sleep apnea results in a person not breathing for a minute at a time while asleep. Sometimes, the person stops breathing for even longer.
Sleep apnea is definitely something that, if left untreated, could be fatal, especially considering that the average sufferer does not even know he or she has it. The only way to tell for sure is to have a doctor perform a sleep study. Once the patient has been formally diagnosed with sleep apnea, it is then time to discuss the various treatment options.
The first alternative does not actually involve any medication at all; it simply involves following a weight loss plan. Many people who suffer from this sleep disorder do so because they are extremely overweight. So, if this is the prescribed treatment method, it is important to eat healthy food and to start exercising. Various medications might be prescribed as well, but another thing to keep in mind is that each treatment option is different, because each person is different!

Sleep Apnea Devices and Their Side Effects
Sleep Apnea MaskUnlike many disorders, for those afflicted with sleep apnea, the sufferers are often the people with whom they sleep. Bed partners have to lie awake listening to their irregular breathing patterns and worry that they may not take their next breath. Of course, those who are afflicted also contend with symptoms that make life difficult, particularly in their waking hours when they are dealing with tiredness and lack of concentration as a result. Sleep apnea devices are designed to assist the patient to breathe properly and thus, hopefully ensure a good night's sleep. Unfortunately, not all sleep apnea devices work for all sufferers so it can be a case of trial and error until the most appropriate device is determined.
CPAP devices
Some cases of the disorder are remedied with surgical solutions whereas others are more readily treated with sleep apnea devices designed to help the airways remain open during sleep. These can include, CPAP - Continuous Positive Airway Pressure - devices, dental appliances, jaw adjustment devices and even the administration of oxygen during sleep.
CPAP sleep apnea devices provide safe and effective, immediate relief. CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. CPAP machines are portable air generators that operate to deliver oxygen at low pressure to the patient via nasal tubing or a full face mask. The job of the air pressure is to push the patient's tongue forward and open the throat so that air can flow more easily into the lungs.
Side effects
Unfortunately, CPAP sleep apnea devices are not without their own side effects. Some patients report dry eyes, headaches, soreness on the bridge of the nose, skin breakouts around the perimeter of the mask, skin dryness, dry mouth, dry nose and stomach wind. Still, for some patients, not using one of these machines presents more health issues than the associated side effects and could even make the difference between life and death.
Types of machines
CPAP machines are not all the same. There are those that are self-adjusting, some that are adjusted manually and some that are bi-pressure. Some include heated dehumidifiers. Understandably these kinds of sleep apnea devices require a prescription so that the correct machine can be purchased for the patient's particular requirements. It is important to develop a relationship with your machine retailer because they will stock all the necessary masks, hoses and other accessories that will need to be replaced periodically. Your retailer will be specially trained in the functioning of the machines and will be able to advise on maintenance as well as be able to answer all of your questions.
APAP machines
The APAP sleep apnea device is a machine that operates automatically to adjust the pressure required on a breath by breath basis, to keep patients' airways open as they sleep. APAP machines are more advanced, and therefore more expensive, than CPAPs but for severe apnea sufferers, the extra expense means enhanced peace of mind.
Dental devices
For those who are fortunate enough not to require comprehensive machinery, there are dental sleep apnea devices that are quite effective. They are portable so ideal for travel and in some instances, they are actually more successful and effective than surgery for some kinds of airway obstructions.
A dental sleep apnea device prevents the patient's tongue from falling back into the throat and causing the patient to stop breathing, however temporarily. The device simply holds the patient's lower jaw forward using two full arch acrylic devices that cover the teeth and that are attached to each other. Different models offer different degrees of advancement but medical professionals recommend at least 50% movement for success.
Side effects
Side effects of dental sleep apnea devices include soreness, build-up of saliva, possible damage to the jaw, teeth and mouth and even a permanent alteration to the position of the teeth or jaw. Again, the side effects must be weighed against the benefits achieved to determine the best solution.
Considering the degrees of severity of sleep apnea and the results achieved by some of the sleep apnea devices available to patients, sufferers should invest time in being diagnosed properly. Therapy for the condition is not a one-size-fits-all situation and solutions must be tailor-made for the individual.

The CPAP ensures a steady supply of air into the air passages and eliminates the snoring.

How CPAP Machines Work
Before going to bed, you put on the CPAP mask; this will have soft prongs that have to be inserted into the nose. The mask is attached to a tube that connects to the CPAP. The air that is generated by the air generator flows into the tube and into your airways through the prongs inserted into the nose. OSA or Obstructive Sleep Apnea is the most common type of sleep apnea that affects millions each year. The basic characteristic of this disease is marked with short episodes of stopped breathing when asleep. It is commonly known as Sleep apnea syndrome or obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.
In healthy people, the basic snoring is characterized by relaxing of the throat muscles when asleep. These throat muscles work to make the air passages rigid and provide strength that is much needed to support proper breathing. People with sleep apnea have very narrow airways, due to relaxed throat muscles. The noise of heavy snoring is due to air trying to pass through the narrow passages and tissues that vibrate causing the snores. However, with sleep apnea due to extreme narrow passages, there can be complete blockages which results in a person waking up gasping for breath.
So, how does a person realized he is not breathing when asleep?
Well, the brain is constantly on alert so when the lungs do not draw enough oxygen and brain fails to get the required oxygen, it sends an alert for waking up. These apnetic events as they are better known still remain a mystery to the medical world. These complete blockages only occur when the person is in REM stage and these lat for 10 seconds and even more in severe cases. The sudden onset of wakefulness to start breathing can lead to choking, gasping and coughing. But these sudden episodes do not let the person get into sound sleep as there are constant interruptions and waking intervals.
When this fragmented pattern continues, it leads to massive sleep deprivation which in turns affects the daily life activities. Loud snoring, headaches, light sleep, feeling of not rested, memory problems, excessive daytime lethargy, low alertness, constant drowsiness and lack of concentration are some other symptoms that indicate sleep apnea. To use the medical term, Hypoxia sets in. Hypoxia is the condition when the person suffers from low oxygen levels on a long term basis.
The most neglected part of this syndrome is the fact that most often than not, the patient is not aware of his or her problem and needs to be told by the bed partner or colleagues who notice these symptoms. The only fact that is clear is that they know they are tired but do not understand the hidden reason of the condition.
If you or your spouse is suffering similar symptoms or nighttime snoring, it might be a good idea to see a doctor immediately. The first step would be to get your snoring evaluated and check for onset of sleep apnea. The doctor may advise complete ear nose mouth and throat check up, look for any deformations or abnormalities. Mostly suspected sleep apnea patients are advised to undergo PSG or Polysmonogram test which checks your sleep patterns, snoring, oxygen levels, heart rate, muscle activity and other sleep related tests in a sleep lab. It is best to get immediate help to stop snoring and arrest the onset of sleep apnea.

What to Expect at Your Sleep Study
So, you have troubles sleeping at night? Or perhaps you are excessively tired during the day? Did you doctor suggest getting a sleep study done?
While you might be concerned at the prospect of sleeping at a strange place with strangers watching over you, the actual process is quite simple. Let's walk you step-by-step through what you can expect from a sleep study.
A sleep study, or polysomnogram, is the best way for doctors to discover just why you are not getting a good night's sleep. If you have an issue with snoring, restless limbs, sleepwalking, bedwetting, night terrors, insomnia, or difficulty sleeping while on shift work, a polysomnogram will let the doctors see just why you are having difficulties, and make suggestions which can help relieve the problem.
There are five different types of sleep tests:
Diagnostic Overnight PolysomnogramDiagnostic Daytime Multiple Sleep Latency Test
Diagnostic Daytime Multiple Wake Test
Two Night Polysomnogram with CPAP Titration
Split Night Polysomnogram with CPAP Titration
The type of test you get will depend on the specific issues you are facing.
You will be given a set of instructions by your doctor before your sleep test. These instructions let you know how you should prepare yourself for your visit. Patients are asked to refrain from drinking or taking any medications before the test. If you have prescription medicine that you usually take at night, bring it with you and ask if it will interfere with the testing. Always let your doctors know exactly what medications you are taking, including herbal remedies and vitamins.
Before heading to your sleep test, pack a small overnight bag. You will need your PJs, the clothing you plan to wear the following day, toiletries, shampoo and/or soap for a shower in the morning, and any books/magazines/music that you might want for entertainment before sleeping. If you are fussy about your pillow, it is a good idea to bring your own along for comfort. Be sure to avoid any caffeine or alcohol the day before your test, especially after noon. It is wise to take a shower before your appointment, but do not use any creams, moisturizers, perfumes, or other skin products. All make-up, nail polish, and fake nails should be removed as they can interfere with the testing equipment.
You may have already been asked to fill out a questionnaire before your appointment. If not, you will likely be asked to fill one out when you arrive. This will inform the doctors of your regular sleep habits and help them interpret your results.
At most sleep centers you will have a private suite which includes a bathroom with a shower, and, of course, the bedroom. There will be a central monitoring station which may monitor several rooms at once. When you arrive you will be given some time to get changed and become comfortable.
Once you are ready for bed the technicians will hook you up to a series of sensors. These electrodes read a variety of information which is later interpreted by your sleep doctor.
EEG or electroencephalogram - These electrodes are attached to your head and measure your brainwaves as you sleep. Different patterns of brainwaves are associated with different stages of sleep. EMG or electromyogram - These electrodes measure your muscle reaction, indicating muscle twitches, leg movements, and many other movements typical of REM sleep. EOG or electro-oculogram - These electrodes are placed above your brow and/or below your eye to measure the movement of your eyes as you enter REM sleep. EKG or electrocardiogram - A series of electrodes on your chest to monitor your heart. Nasal Airflow Sensor - This sensor is placed near your nose and mouth to measure the temperature of your breath and the rate of your breathing, which will detect any periods of irregular breathing. Chest/Abdomen Belts - These two belts are placed around your chest and abdomen to measure the strength and depth of your breathing. Oximeter - This clip is attached to one of your fingers to measure the oxygen level in your blood.
In addition to the sensors attached to you, there are monitors in place to video record your sleep and record the sounds you make as you sleep. Having so many sensors attached may seem uncomfortable, but most people sleep reasonably well while at the sleep clinic.
A sleep test is generally finished by 6-7 in the morning. As long as you have a minimum of 6 hours of testing time, most clinics are fairly flexible as to when you need to leave. You will not get your results immediately after the test. It takes a couple of hours to process all of the information that has been gathered through the night, and then more time for a doctor to interpret the results. Most patients hear back from their doctors within a week of the sleep test.
A sleep apnea mouthpiece is an effective way to treat sleep apnea and snoring. Finding a sleep apnea treatment plan is very important in living a healthy life.
